Well, I feel a bit of a fraud, its 25 years since I lived in Luton and I wasn’t over keen on it when I was there, I certainly have no desire to move back there and I don’t feel qualified to write about it, I do however have a passion for Australia, so Lutonians you can tell me to bog off over to there or you can join my madcap wife and I in the trials and tribulations we encountered whilst preparing our holiday in that wonderful country this year.
Have you ever tried to organize something (anything) so that you could eliminate all of the problems before they arise? Not in my house !!!!
Sod’s Law was written specifically with me in mind, so if it can go wrong it will go wrong (with nobs on). Take our holiday; We started planning a trip in June 2007 to Australia, we were to go in January and we wanted it stress free.
We started by deciding to go with a decent travel agents, Trailfinders, we went with them two years ago and apart from sitting apart on the plane they did a good job for us. To get the best price we decided to pay ‘up-front’, I don’t know if that’s wise or not because (like most people) once they had their/our money they seemed to lose interest.
To overcome the problem that we had last year of not sitting together on the flight I contacted Trailfinders for them to reserve us a pair of seats together at the rear of the plane. “Oh we don’t reserve particular seats” they said. (They’ve just took over £3000 off us and they can’t make a phone call!!!!) I get the number of Korean Airlines from them and reserve our seats on all four flights in about five minutes.
We’re hiring a camper to tour the eastern side of Australia so we’re on the net checking out the model we’ve booked and on Googlemaps working out routes with stop-overs on Big4 campsites (they’re good) I even did some virtual driving via Google Earth.
